The seal is an animal in the Phocidae family.
In ACGN works, seals and seal-related things appear sometimes.
In the broad sense, "seal" is a generic term for animals in the Phocidae family of the Carnivora order. In the narrow sense, it refers exclusively to the species Phoca vitulina (also called the harbor seal, the common seal).
Seals are marine mammals, their head shape is similar to those of canines and felines, their limbs are fin-footed, their body is spindle-shaped and streamlined, facilitating swimming with reduced sea water resistance.
Seals are carnivores, they mainly eat fish as well as aquatic mollusks and crustaceans.
Seals tend to inhabit cold zones, in oceans or internal lakes in subduction zones, partially temperate. It is also found in the tropics. It can be categorized in two major groups: South and North, i.e. the Phocinae subfamily, which is predominantly found in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Phocinae subfamily found predominantly in the Southern Hemisphere (and the southern part of the Northern Hemisphere).
